Unknown substance in South America injected into the lip - this beautiful young woman came to me with a distortion and exaggeration of the tubercles of her lower lip after the injection of an unknown substance in South America.
She had been struggling with this deformity, trying to use fillers to mask it, but nothing was working and it was getting worse. First, we arrested the progress of the distortion, then I performed a precise debulking through the inside of her mouth to leave no scars.
I looked at the scarred, fibrotic material that I removed under the microscope; it ended up being silicone induced granulomas causing the hypertrophy and distortion. Healing from a procedure like this takes a bit longer with the amount of damage done, but in the end she was thrilled with her lips returning to their baseline, beautiful state.
